The Blood of Dawnwalker throws a clever curveball during its treasure hunting quests. After following a treasure map to a dirt mound, you might expect an immediate reward or a simple digging action, but Coen—your character—needs a shovel to proceed. Since shovels aren’t lying around the forest floor, this raises the question: where exactly do you get one?
While shovels may be found near various homes in the game’s small towns, the reliable one you’ll want is located at a key spot you’ll revisit multiple times: the Crossroads Inn in the St. Tyna’s Grove area. This southeastern section of the map becomes accessible after completing Anca’s second quest, Echoes of Silenced Bells .
At the Crossroads Inn, look for the shovel propped against the building's right wall. The innyard is abandoned, so you can grab it without any fuss. Snagging this shovel gives you the ability to dig up hidden treasures scattered across the world.
With the shovel in your inventory, approaching any marked mound of earth from treasure maps switches the interaction option to digging. Hold the button to unearth rewards you've been tracking down. Without this tool, Coen will remind you that you need a shovel before you can keep going.
Once you have a shovel in your inventory, you’ll be able to complete any of the game’s hidden treasure side quests. These quests all involve following the vague directions of a map in order to find a mound of dirt off the main path. If you have a shovel, you’ll be able to dig up the treasure by holding in the interaction button. If you don’t have one, Coen will tell you to come back later with a shovel.
