Touhou Koumakyou New Classic Achievements Guide

Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic demands dedication and skill from players aiming to unlock all its achievements. Some come naturally through progression, but challenging feats like a no-death 1CC run or clearing the Extra Stage push players to refine their tactics and perseverance.

The game’s Challenge Mode grants infinite lives, making it an effective environment for tackling most stage-related achievements without the frustration of constant restarts. However, it’s important to remember that this mode doesn’t apply to every achievement, especially those requiring flawless runs.

The toughest milestones you’ll face are the There Are No Continues in Life and The Very Model of a Danmaku Collector! achievements. They test your endurance and precision, particularly as you venture into the demanding Extra Phantom phase during the Extra Stage.

Below is the comprehensive breakdown of all achievements in Touhou Koumakyou: New Classic and how to unlock them efficiently.

Stage Achievements

Reliance on Challenge Mode can significantly ease the task of unlocking stage completion achievements owing to its unlimited lives.

The initial five stages are accessible across all difficulty settings, while Stage 6 becomes available starting from Normal difficulty.

Successfully completing Stage 6 on Normal or higher unlocks the Extra Stage. Alternatively, a cheat code can also grant access to this stage.

Ending Achievements

The game features six distinct endings, but achievement-wise, you must secure two Bad Endings and four Good Endings by meeting different criteria.

Bad Endings can be obtained by either:

  • Completing the game on Easy mode, or
  • Playing through any difficulty but using at least one continue.

Your choice of character influences which Bad Ending you’ll see.

Good Endings require finishing the game on Normal or higher difficulty without continues — a feat also called a 1CC run.

Challenge Mode allows you to earn a Good Ending if you finish with fewer than five deaths, adding another route for perfectionists.

Each of the four Good Endings hinges on a combination of character and shot type:

EndingCharacterShot Type
Ending 3ReimuReimuA – Spirit Amulet
Ending 4ReimuReimuB – Dream Amulet
Ending 5MarisaMarisaA – Magic Amulet
Ending 6MarisaMarisaB – Love Amulet

Next Time For Sure…

To unlock a Bad Ending achievement, simply complete the game on Easy or clear it with at least one continue on any difficulty.

This is the quickest route to experience a Bad Ending without stringent gameplay requirements.

I Brought My Parasol

Earn Ending 3 by completing Normal or higher with ReimuA (Spirit Amulet) and no continues.

Since this is a 1CC procedure, expect a challenging but rewarding run.

What’s the Story?

Obtain Ending 4 by finishing Normal or above without continues using ReimuB (Dream Amulet).

This ending further invites you into a different narrative route with Reimu's alternate shot type.

What’s on the Menu Today?

Unlock Ending 5 by completing the game on Normal or higher without continues with MarisaA (Magic Amulet).

Marisa’s shot type offers a distinct gameplay style for this achievement.

No Dead Rats Here

Finally, get Ending 6 by clearing Normal or above without continues with MarisaB (Love Amulet).

This represents the last Good Ending achievement available.

Difficulty Achievements

Clear the game on each difficulty setting separately — Easy, Normal, Hard, and Lunatic — to unlock their respective achievements.

Progressing to a harder difficulty won't automatically unlock lower difficulty achievements, so each must be completed individually.

Using continues is allowed on these achievements in Standard Mode, and Challenge Mode’s infinite lives can also assist your attempts.

Impressive, You Show Promise

Clear the game on Easy to unlock this introductory difficulty achievement.

Note that Easy mode concludes after Stage 5.

You’re a Sharp Shooter!

Complete the game on Normal difficulty.

Continues are permitted to help you progress.

Are You Maybe an Arcade Veteran?

Finish the game on Hard, showcasing your honed skills.

You may use continues.

The Scarlet Moon Is Yours!

Clear the game on Lunatic, the most unforgiving difficulty.

Continues remain allowed, but success demands top-tier mastery.

The Extra Stage and Extra Phantom

Upon defeating Flandre in the Extra Stage, a hidden Extra Phantom phase unlocks. This adds three extra Spell Cards, increasing the challenge significantly.

To trigger Extra Phantom, you must capture either 7 or 9 of Flandre’s Spell Cards without taking hits, bombing, or letting the timer expire.

Capturing Spell Cards requires completing each without damage, a bomb, or timeout, which rewards precision and memorization.

Once Extra Phantom starts, you only need to survive the new Spell Cards; capturing them is not mandatory.

There Are No Continues in Life

This achievement demands you survive the Extra Phantom phase under intense pressure without continues or deaths.

You must endure the three additional Spell Cards introduced in Extra Phantom to earn this feat.

Unlike previous captures, surviving the Extra Phantom cards suffices—you don’t need to flawlessly capture them.

Don’t Worry, There Are Plenty of Replacements

Challenge Mode provides unlimited lives, letting you complete all stages and earn this achievement with less frustration.

Just select Challenge Mode on any difficulty, then clear the game.

Nothing Could Replace You

Complete all stages without dying to unlock this demanding achievement.

Note that you cannot earn this in Challenge Mode.

Easy mode is a practical starting point since it only involves five stages and allows bomb use—strategically deploy bombs to survive the toughest moments.

This requires a single run with zero deaths, putting your skills to the ultimate test.

Miscellaneous Achievements

Welcome to Gensoukyou

Log your first adventure by starting a run on any difficulty or mode.

This marks your initial progress in the game’s achievement system.

Please Tell Us Your Name

After finishing or dying during a run, make sure to enter your name to save your score and unlock this achievement.

This is a simple but important ritual to record your efforts.

8 Frames of Satisfaction

Execute your first deathbomb by detonating a bomb within the brief window after taking a hit.

This timing is unforgiving—only 8 frames (roughly 0.13 seconds)—so success reflects sharp reflexes and game sense.

Practicing this skill under pressure can turn the tides during difficult Spell Cards.

Let’s Just Check Out the Music Instead

Unlock at least 7 tracks in the Music Room by hearing music during your playthroughs.

By reaching Stage 4's boss, you will have naturally uncovered seven tracks ready to enjoy.

Open the Music Room from the main menu to trigger the achievement.

The Very Model of a Danmaku Collector!

Reveal every one of the game's 134 unique Spell Cards in the Spell Card Record, a monumental collection task.

Capturing isn’t necessary here—simply reaching all boss Spell Cards on every difficulty and extra mode suffices, including:

  • Easy — reaching Sakuya’s final Spell Card
  • Normal, Hard, and Lunatic — reaching Remilia’s final Spell Card
  • Extra and Extra Phantom — reaching Flandre’s final Spell Card and bonus cards

Each difficulty and mode contributes to the total, requiring extensive play.

Patchouli’s Spell Cards

Patchouli Knowledge’s Spell Cards change depending on your character and shot type, adding variety to her challenges.

Because of these variants, seeing her complete set demands switching characters and shot types across all four difficulty levels.

The following sixteen combinations must be cleared through to Stage 4's end to reveal all her Spell Cards:

  • Easy with ReimuA, ReimuB, MarisaA, MarisaB
  • Normal with ReimuA, ReimuB, MarisaA, MarisaB
  • Hard with ReimuA, ReimuB, MarisaA, MarisaB
  • Lunatic with ReimuA, ReimuB, MarisaA, MarisaB

This represents a significant time investment—16 runs just for one character’s Spell Cards on all difficulties.

You can monitor your progress anytime through Score → Spell Card Records in the game’s main menu.
