Years of anticipation are finally paying off as Fate/Extra Record, the remake of the 2010 PSP JRPG from Type-Moon and Studio BB, has revealed a brand-new trailer. This glimpse into the game intrigues fans by showcasing key gameplay and story elements, signaling a comeback for beloved characters like Saber, Caster, and Archer sooner than expected.

The trailer spotlights the game's three central servants and several boss battles, including a surprise appearance from Arcueid of Type-Moon's Tsukihime series. Observant players noted that some characters now wield different abilities than shown previously—Archer’s new skills stand out the most, hinting at fresh strategic layers.

Unlike the original’s Rock-Paper-Scissors battle mechanic, Fate/Extra Record embraces a card-based combat system reminiscent of titles like Slay the Spire. Yet, its visual presentation leans heavily on the polished card designs popularized by Fate/Grand Order, promising a stylish and tactical experience.

This year brought concerns as Bandai Namco parted ways with the project and director Kazuya Nino exited, stirring fears of cancellation among fans. However, this latest trailer puts those worries to rest, confirming that development is very much ongoing and under control.

First announced in July 2010, Fate/Extra Record has endured multiple release date rumors across years. This marks the first time the game has secured an official launch window, reigniting excitement within the fanbase around the world.

Set to arrive on January 28, 2027, the game will launch across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch (including the upcoming Switch 2), and PC. Collaborations among Type-Moon, Aniplex, Xseed Games, and Marvelous will oversee publishing duties, while Studio BB, with some support from Koei Tecmo, handles development work.
