Flame Peak's eerie ruins hold one of Elden Ring's subtle treasures: the Church of Repose Sacred Tear. This spot can slip past many players, but the moment you step in, you’re thrust into an intense encounter that tests your readiness for the harsh Mountaintops of the Giants.
The Elden Ring Church of Repose Sacred Tear sits at the foot of the big Marika statue inside a ruined church on Flame Peak, in the southern Mountaintops of the Giants. It’s one of two Sacred Tear locations in the region, and it’s an optional detour that’s easy to miss. Bloody Finger Okina also crashes your arrival, which is a rude welcome. Below is the exact route and how to deal with him.
The Church of Repose Sacred Tear is located on Flame Peak in the southern region of the Mountaintops of the Giants, just west of the Foot of the Forge Site of Grace. It’s a quiet, abandoned church marked by a giant statue of Marika inside its ruins. Step inside this ruined church, and at the base of the large Marika statue, you'll find the Sacred Tear resting visibly. The church also contains its own Site of Grace, allowing you to immediately apply the tear to enhance your Flask without backtracking. Don't expect a puzzle or a boss guarding this tear—it’s unprotected. The real challenge is navigating the area, especially since an invader awaits outside to complicate your arrival.
The Church of Repose Sacred Tear is on Flame Peak in the southern Mountaintops of the Giants, just west of the Foot of the Forge Site of Grace.
Step inside the ruined church and find the large Marika statue. The Sacred Tear is lying at its base. The church has its own Site of Grace inside, so you can spend the tear right away.
Nothing guards the tear itself. No boss, no puzzle. The hard part is getting there, and the invader waiting outside is a big reason why.
To reach the Church of Repose, you'll need to have defeated Morgott, the Omen King, in Leyndell. Afterward, Melina grants you the Rold Medallion, unlocking the Grand Lift of Rold, your gateway to the Mountaintops of the Giants. Skip the detour to Castle Sol if you want a more direct route. Traverse the Mountaintops carefully, passing through Freezing Lake, Whiteridge Road, and the Guardians’ Garrison. Cross the enormous chain bridge to unlock Giants’ Gravepost. Then head southwest and uphill through the frozen corpses of giants. The landscape here is deceptively uniform, so keep your bearings and look west for the ruined church. If you have already unlocked the Foot of the Forge Site of Grace, simply head west from there to the church.
Before you get to the Church of Repose, you need to beat Morgott, the Omen King, in Leyndell. Melina then gives you the Rold Medallion, which lets you use the Grand Lift of Rold to reach the Mountaintops. Castle Sol is a side trip, so skip it.
Cross the Mountaintops through Freezing Lake, Whiteridge Road, and the Guardians’ Garrison. Then take the giant chain across and unlock Giants’ Gravepost.
From there, ride southwest and uphill through the frozen giant corpses. It’s easy to get turned around because every direction looks like a pile of frozen giants. Keep climbing and look to the west for the ruined church.
Already unlocked Foot of the Forge? Just head west from that grace.
Approaching the church isn’t just a scenic journey—Bloody Finger Okina will invade as soon as you get close, yanking you off your mount and thrusting you into an immediate fight. This invader strikes swift slashes that inflict hemorrhage buildup quickly, so keep your distance and avoid his combos. Okina doesn’t have healing abilities and is particularly vulnerable to stagger, which makes using weapons that deal chip damage and can break his poise a good strategy. Getting some early hits in to stagger him can make the fight much more manageable. One trick is to sprint into the church and rest at its Site of Grace before engaging. That way, if Okina defeats you, you’ll respawn nearby instead of trekking all the way back. Defeating Bloody Finger Okina rewards you with the highly coveted Rivers of Blood katana, the Okina Mask, and a hefty sum of 11,155 runes. However, he does not drop the Sacred Tear, so fighting him is about the weapon and rewards rather than unlocking the tear.
Get close to the church and the game yanks you off Torrent. Here, you will see the lovely Bloody Finger Okina invading.
He hits with bloody slashes that stack hemorrhage fast, so stay out of their range. Okina doesn’t heal and staggers easily, which makes chip damage and a stagger-friendly weapon a solid plan.
Here’s a trick I like: sprint into the church and touch the Site of Grace first. If he kills you, you respawn right next to him instead of making the long ride back.
Beating him drops Rivers of Blood, the Okina Mask and 11,155 runes. The Sacred Tear isn’t one of his drops, and none of the sources I checked say you have to kill him first. Fight him for the katana, not the tear.
Before you leave the area, check out two valuable items nearby that aren’t inside the church itself. A short climb to the mouth of the giant skull to the southeast will reveal an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone , critical for upgrading your weapons late-game. For another boost, use the nearby Spiritspring to reach the top of the skull and snag the Ash of War: Troll’s Roar , which adds a powerful shockwave effect to your weapons, great for crowd control. While approaching from Giants’ Gravepost, keep an eye out for other resources like an Arteria Leaf, five Fan Daggers, and two Warming Stones, but be cautious of a large bird that can ambush you near some of these pickups.
Don’t ride off yet. Two good items are a short trip away, and neither is inside the church.
Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone: Climb to the mouth of the giant skull southeast of the church. The stone is in there. Some guides say the eye, but the mouth is where it actually is.
Ash of War: Troll’s Roar: Use the Spiritspring and ride up to the top of the skull.
The approach from Giants’ Gravepost also has an Arteria Leaf, five Fan Daggers and two Warming Stones. Watch out for the big bird near some of them.
Frequently Asked Questions
If Bloody Finger Okina isn’t appearing, some players find that resting at a Site of Grace and then reloading their save can trigger his invasion. This method isn’t confirmed, but it’s worth trying if you suspect a glitch. Also, Okina can invade even after defeating the Fire Giant, so don’t assume the boss fight disables him.
Some players say resting at a grace and reloading the game brings him back. That’s unverified, but it doesn’t hurt to test it. Others report him invading even after Fire Giant, so don’t assume the boss killed him off.
If your Flask upgrade remains stuck at +11 despite visiting multiple churches, remember that you need to interact with the gold pickup at the statue itself and then spend it at a Site of Grace. The First Church of Marika in particular is easy to overlook, but essential for this upgrade, as is the Mountaintop Tear.
Visiting a church isn’t enough. You have to grab the gold pickup at the statue and spend it at a grace. The easiest one to overlook is First Church of Marika, the other is Mountaintop Tear.
Sacred Tears do not affect the Flask of Wondrous Physick, which is upgraded through Crystal Tears instead. Your Sacred Tears will only increase the capacity of your Crimson and Cerulean Flasks.
No. They only boost your Crimson and Cerulean Flasks. The Physick runs on Crystal Tears, which are a different item.
