The Abyss stands out as one of the most enigmatic areas in Crimson Desert, tempting players with a vast supply of skill points hidden behind intricate puzzles and daring platforming. It’s a place that tests not only your reflexes but patience as well, especially when repeated falls make progress feel like an uphill battle. But the payoff—unlocking Abyss Artifacts—makes every frustrating jump worth it.
This section covers the major Abyss regions, the Spires you'll need to climb to access them, and strategies to solve the puzzles guarding those precious Artifacts. The Abyss requires a good grasp of Crimson Desert’s unique abilities such as Axiom Force and Force Palm, making each encounter a thoughtful gameplay experience rather than a simple fetch quest.
Path of Providence
Axiom Archive
Early in the game’s Abyss sequence, the **Axiom Archive** introduces you to basic puzzle mechanics. The first puzzle is straightforward: rotate the slabs on the ground with your newly acquired Axiom Force skill, turning them right to align the pattern.
A subsequent challenge requires hitting a pedestal repeatedly with Axiom Force until it emits blue sparks. Once activated, a platform sequence begins—jump forward and follow the path carefully until you are teleported to a new, mysterious location. Timing here is key; rushing can send you tumbling to restart.
Ethereal Pathway
Progressing through the main quest, the **Ethereal Pathway** puzzles notably test your control over the Axiom Force whip. The initial step involves dragging a floating electrical cube to replace a stone cube. This swap paves the way for the next portion of the puzzle.
Following this, a ghost is observed punching a wall. Approach and hold the Observe button to learn a new skill. Then, grab a second floating object and place it into a wall slot where the ghost was attacking. Subtle visual cues like sparkling and falling leaves indicate you’ve positioned it correctly.
Use your newly learned ability to punch the object into the wall, securing it firmly. This sequence often requires a bit of finesse as timing and positioning can feel unintuitive on first attempts.
Once secured, a large circular panel on the wall is powered up. Despite cryptic in-game instructions, the solution is to climb out, leap onto this circle, and strike it with your Force Palm skill to complete the puzzle. It's a satisfying moment once you get the hang of it.
Root’s End
After acquiring the glide skill—often teased with a dramatic sunset jump—you can quickly return to the Abyss via the map by double-clicking the Nexus on the Ethereal Pathway. This shortcut saves time as you continue descending the **Path of Providence**.
Reach the **Restored Abyss** and cross the Skybridge Gate. When facing moving platforms that converge from left to right, don’t wait—spamming the jump button to hop early cuts down your traversal time and prevents unnecessary falls.
Passing through a portal deposits you into Root’s End. Here, patience is crucial—wait for a moving platform to ferry you to the next island. Later, carefully descend breakable platforms before gliding to a larger island. If your stamina upgrades are sufficient, you can reach higher ledges with ease; otherwise, climb carefully from lower points toward the northern Nexus stairs.
If you’ve gotten some Stamina upgrades by now, you will easily reach a higher part of the island. If not, you can climb your way to the top from a lower floor. The Nexus is on the northern side of the island, up a set of stairs.
At the puzzle site, stepping into the center, crouching, and hitting a grate with Force Palm triggers a high-stakes “Mission Impossible” style sequence where you fall while dodging lasers. The challenge demands timing your jumps to glide between laser sections. Damage taken is manageable, so focus on positioning; gliding near the end reveals a nearby blue crystal.
You’ll start falling through a Mission Impossible sequence where you’ll try to avoid lasers while falling. Just tap the jump button from time to time to glide and adjust your position. You can take a few hits, as they only take around 75 HP. It’s pretty easy and you can fall without gliding most of the sequence. Once you get relatively close to the end and past the lasers, make sure to glide to get the lay of the land.
The next task involves grabbing the floating crystal with Axiom Force, then carefully descending to place it in a battery slot. Positioning can feel awkward—standing on certain platforms may electrocute you or prevent successful placement, so experiment with standing on lower platforms or adjacent edges to land the hit with Force Palm reliably.
Once the crystal is set, standing on the adjacent blue circle triggers a teleport outside this puzzle zone. A further floating battery awaits in the new location, and like before, it must be pushed into its socket using Axiom Force and Force Push. Timing the push when the battery is lowered is key due to its floating motion.
Now go stand on the little blue circle on the right and you’ll teleport outside.
There’s another floating battery in this new location that you’ll need to push into the the slot. You’ll see it on the right, floating and throwing lightning all over the place. Move it with Axiom Force around a bit until it shows leaves floating instead of lightning. Move to the front part and try to push it in with Force Push. It’s a bit weird since you can’t really stand at the same height as it in front of it, but it floats up and down. Hit when it’s down.
Finalizing this puzzle section involves crouch Force Pushing the newly appeared circular platform. Upon successful activation, proceed through the unlocked Abyss gate and jump to the next portal to advance the Restoration Challenges.
The Precipice of Truth
Reach **The Precipice of Truth** either directly via the post-Root’s End portal or by gliding eastward from adjacent islands if you have at least a couple of stamina upgrades. The descent here requires skillful platforming and precision gliding to avoid falling into the Abyss below.
Near the entrance, a hovering fireball-shooting orb challenges your combat and puzzle abilities. Destroy it with Axiom Force to reveal a power box, which you then carry to the nearby Nexus for placement.
Insert this cube into the slot found to the right, then push a slender blue pillar into its respective slot using Force Push. Each placement powers the next stage of the puzzle, requiring careful positioning on your part.
Note that if you leave this island prematurely after triggering the cube’s spawn but before inserting it, the cube vanishes. You’ll need to unlock the **Kuku Pot** before returning to solve the puzzle if this happens, so consider your path carefully.
Climb to the activated turbine for the next puzzle segment. Another attacking orb appears—destroy it to collect a power egg, which must be carried onto a waiting platform. Do not drop it prematurely; placing the egg into its slot yields a power square needed for the next step.
After removing the power square, drag it left toward the wall, then cancel to leave it floating. This setup prepares you for the platforming segment ahead.
Before advancing, relocate the power egg further left. While the puzzle intends you to collect multiple power eggs, you can cleverly reuse the same one, saving effort and time.
Return to the illuminated slot on the right and fit the power square there. Punch it firmly with Force Palm while standing on nearby ledges. This completes the puzzle and opens the way forward in the Abyss Restoration Challenges.
